Hello Arnold et al. I was very glad to see this manuscript covering the Agulhas leakage. I have a few comments that you may (or may not) want to include in a future version.
1) For the ITF in situ-recommendations, do you have a temporal and spatial rate of sampling that you would like to recommend ? I believe that the transect you refer to is IX01, which is implemented by BOM with contribution of NOAA XBTs. It would be very good to have a recommendation to support future NOOA contributions.
2) You may want to state that Fig5 and 6 are SSTs, give a date for them and have a SST scale that could be better read. I am not sure if this RSMAS DSP figure allows for this type of change. This figure shows the retroflection very well.
3) You may want to give ranges for the Agulhas leakage. I believe that some years were known for producing very small number of rings.
I enjoy your manuscript.
